Dark Tryst

I met her in a noisy pub
She did not look like she belonged
Her jet-black hair and pale white skin
Stood out amongst the throng

Though jostled by the boisterous
She seemed above it all
When her eyes locked onto mine
She had me in her thrall

When you see the man I am
It's clear I'm no Adonis
Men such as I do rarely glimpse
Dame Fortune's smile upon us

So, when she strode across the room
To take my trembling hand
I swore I'd follow where she led
Beyond the farthest land

She bade me take her to my room
I did so in a daze
I stumbled somehow to my place
Bedazzled by her gaze

Then with unexpected strength
She drew me to my bed
Stroked my hair with cold white hands
And kissed me ‘round my head

"Before I give you pleasure, friend,"
She purred into my ear
"I first must take some payment which
I trust is not too dear"

'Ere I could move a muscle
Her sharpened fangs did show
And from deep within my pulsing neck
She caused the blood to flow.

Pinned beneath her on the bed
I could not raise my fist
She fiercely drained my life-force out
I was unable to resist

The pain and fear I felt at first
Soon faded into bliss
As I flowed slowly into her
Our souls mingled with this kiss

She lapped my blood as though it were
The finest vintage wine
I felt her body slowly warm
Revived, her face did shine

Then at last she’d supped enough
Her fierce grasp slowly eased
Then she gently let me go
Though I no longer craved release

"Now, Benefactor, I shall drain
You even more this night
But do not fear me, Gentle Friend,
You'll see the morning light."

Without another word, she flowed
Like mist into me then
That night I learned of joys profound
Unknown to mortal men

At sunrise, I awoke alone
My unearthly lover gone
I never had a better cause
To curse the coming dawn

........................................

Since that night I've wandered oft
Down unlit streets alone
I ponder life within the shade
Where daylight is unknown

I tell myself my dark desires
Could n'ere replace the sun
Yet each night as I go to bed
My window... is undone
